 Seeing in the Dark

This week I travel from love and sex to reading auras and seeing in the dark. In 1993, during a week at a spiritual retreat in Russia’s "outback," where the July mosquitoes are near the size of healthy cockroaches, I learned of night sight. This is not the same as night vision used in the military, this was some magical power taught to me by a Russian guru.

Consciousness, intellect, human creativity, and love are integral components of the universe. There are infinite complex mysteries of time, space and invisible energies for us to explore. What if I told you that there is a simple exercise or technique that will enable anyone to see auras, and see in the dark?

In Chinese medicine we learn that all the body’s acupuncture meridians (the body’s electrical system) terminate in the eyes, and that we can control these energies by controlling eye movement and breath.

Miyamato Musashi, a renown samurai warrior, describes the all seeing gaze his masterpiece, Book of the Five Rings. He says that there is a special vision one can develop to see within an enemy to know of an impending attack.

Other mystical texts refer to a kind of all "seeing gaze," a second sight associated with extraordinary powers, heightened consciousness, and obtaining spiritual wisdom. The development of these powers involves the stimulation and development of neural connections that lay dormant in every person who has not yet consciously developed these facilities. These neural pathways can be easily developed. While it may take hours of practicing specific exercises, the effort is certainly worthwhile. In addition to astounding your friends, think of the savings in electricity, and the fun of driving I-75 with no lights!

In a 1954 book, A System of Caucasian Yoga, by Count Colona Walewski, the author describes his years' of monastic study in Russia’s Caucus Mountains.

He says that the secret of clairvoyant vision lies in developing the association of conscious perception with peripheral vision receptors. When we expand these capabilities, through a simple set of exercises, we open ourselves to an entirely new world of perception…and without using LSD!

The secret of these extraordinary powers lies in the difference between focuses and unfocused vision. For this you will need to understand the functions of the eye.

The retina of the human eye is composed of three areas: the fovea for sharp focusing, the macula for medium focusing and the peripheral visual areas. Each performs its own distinctive function and is receptive to different wavelengths of light (different colors, ultraviolet, infrared, etc.).

The fovea, a small circular depression in the center of the retina, has around 160,000 cells packed into an area the size of a pinhead. These cells, called cones, are color receptive, each with a single nerve connecting to the brain.

Surrounding the fovea is the macula. The macula is an oval body of color sensitive cones that are not as closely packed as those found in the fovea. Each cone in the macula also has its own nerve. The macula is the area of the eye used for reading, watching movies and television, etc.

As we move from the macula into the peripheral visual area of the retina we find the rods. Rods are extremely sensitive, and can detect the light of a single candle ten miles ways! Several hundred rods are attached to the same nerve. This neural arrangement enables the detection of light and movement.

Most of us have a condition known as tunnel vision and don’t know it. Tunnel vision develops when we exclusively use the fovea and macular parts of our sight. Looking at the computer screen is the biggest culprit! The brain’s powerful peripheral processing circuits remain dormant from lack of use. When we stimulate and develop these, a new world opens to us.

We can walk in the darkest night with complete confidence. The world appears as a glow or iridescence, …and without destroying you brain with chemicals, such as LSD. We begin to see auras around plants and other living things. We find that shifting into second sight also creates an inner feeling of relaxation and peacefulness.

Here’s a simple exercise to begin your development. Light two candles and place them five inches apart about 3 feet in front of your face. With your arms in front of you, put your thumb in the exact center between the candles and focus your eyes on the tip of your thumb. Then very slowly, bring your thumb on a center line toward your face, maintaining a focus on your thumbnail. If you pay attention to the candle flames in your peripheral vision, you will see that the candle flames will come together and form a third candle in the center between the other two.

Maintain your eyes and remove your thumb from in front of your face. Try to keep the three candle images for at least ten minutes. With practice, you will be able to create the third image without effort. Look at yourself in a mirror, and do the same while looking at your eyes. When you see a third eye in the center, keep your gaze and now focus your attention on the area around your head. With continued practice you will begin to see and aura around yourself and others. This is simple the body’s bioelectric field.

By doing this at night, you can learn to see in the dark, even on a moonless night. You must first sensitize your visual rods by spending one half hour in darkness or under very dim light before going on your night walk.

Night waling is very strange. If you try to see you can’t. If you relax and remember the exercise, its like turning on a light bulb! The surrounding country side appears to glow in the dark. Besides fireflies, all insects and other night creatures emit their own light. When you first begin your night walking you cannot consciously see anything. You must trust your brain to guide you over and around obstacles. Our minds do see these obstacles and will steer us accurately around them. (Remember Obeoneknowbe’s instruction from Star Wars?) After a few hours of practice you will suddenly become consciously aware of the signals that were previously deeply buried in the brain. You will experience a subtle shift in consciousness, and your awareness will expand to a new level. You can then carry this new awareness into daylight and into your daily activities. Try it and let me know how you do. Until next week…expect the unexpected, and get just what you need.
