The Natural Law Party
Asheville has been blessed with more new age thought people
per capita than anywhere in America. With such a plethora of path-followers
and philosophies, questions are bound to arise. Here's one. What, or who is the "Natural Law Party?" Well, without much research you'll see they are a
significant part of the TM Organization, whose spiritual head, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has millions
of adherents world-wide. For those unaware of
meditation, TM stands for Transcendental Meditation.©
Please note the copyright. Now, let's take
a look at meditation and few other things.
First off, meditation, if it is
meditation at all, IS
transcendental. It places a practitioner in an authentic expanded state of consciousness,
in union with his or her Divine nature.
There is much being offered as
"meditation" today, including guided fantasy, relaxation tapes, mind machines,
etc. In my 18 years as editor of New Frontier
Magazine, with exposure to thousands of techniques, groups, gurus, processes, devices,
cults, etc., few offer what I call meditation.
Mantra meditation--the form used by the TM organization--is indeed a valid form of
meditation. The problem is that while in a meditative state, but not yet self-realized, a
person is VERY susceptible to
mental, and some say psychic or empathic programming or influence.
Mid-point in the 20th century, we were exposed to techniques used by the North Koreans to
get the American military to change their thinking and point of view. It was called
"brain washing." It worked.
Today, hypnotic and brain entrainment methods are being used subliminally and successfully
in TV commercials and magazine advertising. A few years back, virtually every auto
manufacturer in the world began using New Age brain entrainment sound tracks while they
presented their cars.
There are many forms of meditation, each having its unique resonance with the person using
the technique. Not all are the best or most appropriate for everyone.
The yogi running the TM team has worked a very strong method into a most powerful money
machine.
His Natural Law Party and his Ayurvedic medicine program have given him more
power and influence. A surf on the Net will show his influence
Now, the question is: Will a handsomely profitable yogi with a meditation method that
works (for some) also make a good world leader? To a certain extent, he is already.
Can he be any worse that what we now have with
a sex-crazed president, ethnic cleansers and their like?
I have been a proponent of the Tantric lifestyle for a number of years, and I too would
like to see the world "chilled out," and its inhabitants in loving harmony with
each other. In many ways I agree with TM's yogiji.
There is one little difference. Truth. Why hasn't the Natural
Law Party come out and said that it's a part of the TM movement, or at least very closely
aligned?
I mean the Christian fundamentalists, fanatic as they may be, at least tell the truth when
they tell us they want Jesus to run the show.
Maharishi, come on now....
Jesus didn't hide his trip, Osho didn't hide anything, and neither do I. Sure, we have to
take a lot of criticism, but it comes with the program.
What I offer (love, tenderness, sensuality, bliss, pleasure, ease, delight, ecstasy, etc.)
may not be politically in vogue in today's fear-based society, however I don't subscribe
to telling falsehoods.
If it's TM, then by God, Maharishi, or whomever...say it. Any political party based upon a
lie or withholding information, cannot serve anyone.
Also, we need to look at the Natural Law Party getting millions of tax dollars to favor
one person's form of meditation ...and Bombay bank account.
I heard that M. M. Yogi now charges one thousand dollars for
a mantra. Wow.
I give people a mantra for free and guide people in its use. Simply send e-mail to
banks@newfrontier.com or go to the Cosmic Love
site, http://www.newfrontier.com/tantra
While I sense that sound can be made flesh, and that chanting or mentally repeating the
names of deities brings us closer to a Divine state, any form of brain entrainment can
achieve the statistical results of TM.
Herbert Benson, MD, professor at the Harvard Medical School, author of
The Relaxation
Response, and a former participant the TM program, showed this with his now famous Ko-Ka-Kolah meditation. Simple repetition of the sound Ko-Ka-Kolah, Ko-Ka-Kolah,
Ko-Ka-Kolah, Ko-Ka-Kolah for 20 minutes will create the exact same relaxation response as
repeating your mantra. I am not sure what spiritual value it has, though.
There are as many forms of true meditation as there are grains of sand on a beach.
TM is but one grain, and one path. Should this path get government money to do it's thing?
I am not sure. What do you think? Respond with your opinion? Click here for
