Virato has been defined as someone who has lived many lives...this time around.

CEO businessman, marketing consultant, US Navy pilot, suburban husband, webmaster, vagabond, writer, mystic, Christian missionary, consciousness promoter, spiritual teacher, magazine publisher, and editor, world traveler, guru, film narrator  and now ...radio talk show host.

Many love him totally, while some say he is one of the most invasive people they have met. He claims it is his Zen shtick. To some he is a guru, to others a scoundrel. Maybe its because of the beautiful women that surround and cherish him, including his beloved wife, Dhiraja. Though controversial, people are nevertheless continually drawn to him.

Virato moved to Asheville, North Carolina, mysteriously drawn to America's "spiritual, new age  mountain Mecca" from Philadelphia in 1994. Since 1981 he's been editor and publisher of New Frontier Magazine, a leading edge international journal promoting the expansion of human consciousness. 

In 1995 he hosted his own radio talk program, New Frontier On The Air, over WSKY in Asheville, NC which was the last local progressive, and highly conscious program heard throughout the mountains of Western North Carolina. Soon after, WSKY was purchased by a fundamentalist coalition which immediately terminated Virato's popular program ...ending Virato's airborne rhetoric, until January 2005 when he began VIRATO LIVE! on WPEK, 880 The Revolution in Asheville and streamed to the world  Programs archived & podcast and some programs available on CD

Virato was also a dynamic radio talk show host in New York and Philadelphia, and in Tennessee was a columnist for Chattanooga's weekly newspaper, Chattanooga Outlook. Since the early 80s Virato has lectured and appeared at Whole Life Expos and other consciousness gatherings all over the United States, and in Russia.  In 1996, he co-published the monthly holistically oriented newspaper Asheville Resource.

Stories on him have appeared world-wide, and he has appeared on numerous television shows, and been heard on over 500 radio stations, including in Russia, where he frequently visits and lectures. In 2000, while in St. Petersburg, Russia he met Dhiraja (Dee ra zha). They were married by a judge on Valentine's Day, 2002...barefoot in a Chattanooga court house

Virato is currently editor and publisher of Asheville Magazine, a mind expanding online journal, writes a column in Asheville's Indie, and continues to lecture and conduct workshops in all sorts of transformative areas, including a unique program to eliminate addictions.

Virato is known and loved by millions. He was responsible for bringing CBS News to Asheville, dubbing it "America's New Age Mecca."
