Asheville Magazine periodically choose a person, place, concept or philosophy in greater Asheville, and places it under a spotlight for your notice. In most cases it is positive, and in some rare cases it may have the flavor of Kali ...the destroyer.
Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company... Mike and Doug are co-owners/managers of Asheville's most enjoyable place for a beer and pizza or what we believe to be the very best Spinachburger in the world! Located at 675 Merrimon Avenue, on the same property as Brugger's Bagels (on the right, about 2 miles north of Pack Square), there's also plenty of parking Previously called "Brew & View," some years back, and now popularly termed "APC," the place is the old Twin Theater movie house on Merrimon, converted to a pub with a movie theater and brewery in the rear. You can carry your favorite brew in the back with you along with your food, or order it inside the theater. The films at APC have drawn big crowds. They're what the people want to see!. What's HT about APC is that it's bringing new people that you rarely see downtown. The crowd is mixed with young and old, and the prices are right. You must try their in-house brew, a classic IPA called Shiva. Another best from our Asheville Magazine group palate. Check out the garlic fries and the scrumptious fare of burgers (meat and vegetarian), and their munchie snacks. Great bar pizza..(14 varieties, or design your own with their 40 different toppings, plus a choice of whole wheat, standard or peppercorn crusts....and they deliver! They also have a bar inside the theater where you can still watch the film and order your food which includes 12 different appetizers. Be sure and try their 100% Vegan Burgers made from potato-garlic or sundried tomatoes ...or their out-of-this-world artichoke spinach dip! They also make a great lasagna and a veggie spaghetti. For the carnivores, they offer their Royale Burger, grilled Aztec Chicken, and Cosmo Club They have a dynamic menu that changes, so please don't hold us to these choices.... If you're short of cash they offer their delightful El Mariachi, a large plate of flavorful beans and rice, salsa and sour cream for only four bucks. The servers (the friendliest we've met in town!) will bring the food to your seat in the movie (there are these long wooden tables in front of each row of seat). All the seats rock, and APC also has couches up front in the movie theater! WW! The sound system is the best in town! Pool tables and dynamic videos and other games in the back on right, where videos often show on the humongous movie screen. The place is BIG back there...with great wall paintings by Johnny Miller... Recently we met Tony Kiss (Entertainment Editor for Asheville's Citizen-Times) at APC, and at the time he told us that it's also his favorite watering hole and eatery in Asheville... And the place is kid friendly, so you can bring the kids (they offer a children's menu and films for kids in the morning-during the summer, so this may not always be but leave your pet(s) at home or in the car) . They are now the only $2 movie in Asheville! They also have a great game room in the back... When we were last there, they had 15 brews on tap (several of their own from the brewery you can see from the bar) and 13 bottled varieties .plus sodas, coffee, and and Ben and Jerry's ice cream and juices They're at 254-5339. To find out what's playing today call 236-2919 e-mail While they do serve until 11 PM (pizza slices until later), on Friday and Saturday, it's best to get there by 10 PM if you want anything but pizza. They're open 7 days a week, and have also become a lunch spot for a growing "in" crowd.
