ON THE INTERNET

It's called the World Wide Web, the hottest way for people to communcate, advertise, etc. The Internet is the electronic hhighway with over 50 million people traveling it, the WWW, is a "home on the highway" that you can get to in clever ways. Called the "Home Page, " over 50,000 people now have one, and it's expected to exceed 100,000 by the end of the year. New Frontier Magazine; Body, Mind Spirit, New Age Journal, Magical Blend, and Yoga Journal are some conscious publications that have a home page on the "web." Soon you will be able read your magazines by calling it up on your computer.

CBS MYSTERIES OF THE MILLENNIUM

Amy Norwood, a producer for the CBS Special "Mysteries of the Millennium," picked up the story about Asheville, NC in our last issue, and decided to come to Asheville to film a segment of this special documentary to be aired in October. It seems the Executive Producer of the show wanted to do a thing on the end of the Millennium survivalists, and thought that Gordon Michael Scallion's predictions about Asheville might have sent them seeking end-time refuge. We, at New Frontier told them we didn't see many survivalists, but that there were plenty of people here who do believe in the ascension process. They want the segment to have a negative, fear-oriented slant, and we suggested some alternatives.

ELECTRONIC PASTEURIZATION

It appears that the food irradiation business has almost failed. The major irradiation facility, Food Technology Services, formerly Vindicator (quite a name, no wonder they changed it) is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Seems that people really didn't want radioactivity sent by truck and railroad cars all over the place. So, now they plan on bombarding the food with a specific pulse and electronic ray. In an article in the current edition of Healthy & Natural Journal, Michael Colby says that, there is an increased chance of inducing radioactivity in foods. In the article, entitled "Star Wars Scientists Declare 'War' on Veggies," the author goes on to say the new process will be called "Electronic Pasteurization," but will have the same negative effect upon food as with Cobalt-60 radiation. Vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins are particularly susceptible, and their may still be the creation of unknown substances in the food bombarded. And now we do have the added risk of our food containing actual radiation from the process.

SCIENCE SAYS PRAYER HEALS

In his latest book, Healing Words, the Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine (Harper SanFrancisco), Larry Dossey, MD sites studies from San Francisco General Hospital in 1988, and an additional 130 that show laboratory tests where prayer affected humans and bacteria. Dr. Dossey is the former Chief of Staff from Humana Medical Center, Dallas, TX

NEW AGE WRITERS' GUIDE

Of all the mail we receive each day, most are manuscripts and queries from budding authors. Now , a resource guide is available that contains the names of every local, regional and national magazine for readers of what may loosely be called "new age." New Choices for Writers, lists not only all the alternative magazines, but also book publishers seeking new age thought. It's not only valuable for writers, but a great tool for advertisers and promoters as well. Each magazine and book publisher is given a comprehensive listing with their profile, editorial interest and circulation. It also includes an index by category (we were a little sad that New Frontier wasn't included in a few other categories), for books and another for magazines. The editor of this guide is Elizabeth Gould, who spent several years amassing the material and updating the database.

"Our planet is experiencing an awakening of consciousness, a new creativity, and a change in the way experiences are expressed," says Gould. "We felt it was time to respond to this change and create a guide for writers whose work reflects these sensibilities. New Choices for Writers is dedicated entirely to magazines and book publishers committed to exploring the evolving new age consciousness. We view the term "new age" as inclusive and growing, with non-traditional, alternative views of positive planetary and personal growth and change."

She also offers a detailed article (nine 8 1/2 X 11 pages) called "Thirteen Reasons Why Most Writers Fail to Get Published and What You Can Do to Succeed," in the beginning of the guide, and an outstanding glossary and alphabetical index in the back. We were so delighted that we are offering them to our readers. Send $19.95 + $3 s&h to New Frontier, PO Box 17397, Asheville, NC 28806.
